Love is in the air. Miss Cupid is fluttering her wings around, shooting pink and red arrows in lovers hearts. Let’s get one thing straight, there shouldn’t be a debate on whether love is to be celebrated! Valentine’s day celebrates the love you have for others and vice versa. Love is displayed differently for everyone. But what matters the most, is highlighting the joy, peace and excitement one has for that very special somebody. Some say it’s the worst day to be single…but I believe in Galentines, giving a box of chocolates to your grandparents, to a stranger or even a secret crush. Love is everywhere, you just have to navigate it well.

Here’s a quick history lesson on how this holiday came about ! Valentine’s day is rooted from Ancient Rome’s Lupocalia Festival where young people were matched randomly from February 13th to 15th. It later turned to celebrate two martyrs named Valentine who died on February 14th in the 3rd century. These two dates were combined and romanticised, with the help of William Shakespeare and his love tragedy plays, to celebrate a day of love. Well, shoutout to Ancient Rome I guess ! If you’re struggling on how to spend V-Day with someone. Pro-tip, do what feels right, do what you know the other person will appreciate. After all, speaking your significant other’s love language is what matters the most.

It’s hard to not compare what theatrics and gestures other people do online, but shift your focus to THAT person. It’s all about your relationship. To all the singles, keep your head up and love yourself and those around you (and don’t get yourself in situationships for the sake of getting some on V-day, I see you…) If you’re one of those that doesn’t celebrate your partner on Valentine’s Day because it’s just “another day”, grow up and ask yourself if you actually love them xxx
