Same Love, Less Access: The Art of the Gentle Demotion

Some people don’t need to be cut off. They just need to be clocked out.

You don’t hate them. You’re not bitter. You’re not even hurt anymore.

But you are finally clear: not everybody deserves front-row seats to your evolution.

Some folks need to be moved to the balcony.. or better yet, the lobby. With love, of course.

Friendship isn’t a pointless title, it’s access. It’s emotional bandwidth. It’s time, trust, and shared terrain.

If someone’s constantly dropping the ball, showing up late, or only calling when their life’s in flames, maybe they’re not a friend. Maybe they’re a project, or a placeholder, or an old habit you outgrew without realizing.

Let’s normalize the rebrand: Not enemies. Not strangers. Just… associates.

Same love. Less access.

You still wish them well. You’ll still dap them up in public. But your peace is no longer a group activity, & your loyalty gets earned monthly now, like rent.

You can love people from a healthier distance.

Some friendships expire quietly. Others just get reassigned to a role that fits who you are now.

Not everyone’s meant to stay on your favorites list.

And that’s okay.
